Another 314 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan has pushed the state’s total to 54,679, health officials announced Sunday.

The number of deaths attributed to the disease caused by the coronavirus rose by just five to 5,228, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said Sunday.

The number of additional deaths was the lowest since March 22, the Detroit Free Press reported.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness or death.
