Shirkey: No trust with governor, no deal without law limiting her power
The state Senate Majority Leader has said no to a potential deal to restore some budget items Governor Gretchen Whitmer had vetoed. Whitmer and Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield had reached a tentative agreement. Senator Jim Ananich is the leader of the Democrats in the Senate. He says he’s disappointed.
“I don’t know if we’re going to get there," Ananich said. "Maybe the budget is done. But it’s frustrating and I feel like we, we should all put our egos aside and make sure we get to the business of solving problems and we’re not doing that right now.”
"A spokeswoman for Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey says he won’t agree to a spending deal unless Whitmer signs a law limiting some of her powers. A spokeswoman for Whitmer says the governor is disappointed Shirkey won’t compromise.
