Airport Travelers May Need Extra Time Due To Construction

Passengers and guests visiting the Gerald R. Ford International Airport should prepare for extra travel time getting to the airport this summer.  It all starts June 10th.  The Kent County Road Commission will be working on a project to widen 44th street at Patterson.  This, as the summer travel season moves into high gear.

“Realizing that we are a great, efficient airport, but giving yourself extra time will just make it easier and simpler for you.”

Tara Hernandez, Marketing and Communications Director with the Gerald R. Ford International Airport says giving yourself that extra time will be your best bet as new road work gets underway nearby.

“The Kent County Road Commission us adding dual left turn lanes at 44th and Patterson,  but they’re going to be maintaining one lane in each direction, and left turns at that intersection. But the biggest part is that it’s the peak of summer.”

Hernandez suggests handling the new waves of construction both inside and around the airport, much the same as you’d handle everyday road concerns you might encounter.

“Think the same at the airport.  So, give yourself extra time getting to the airport just like you would if you were navigating road traffic.  It will give you ease of mind, help you get to your destination earlier.”

Road work starts June 10th and runs until the end of August.
