Spring break is over but those still planning to visit the sunshine state have a new option from Grand Rapids. Allegiant has added more service. This time to Sarasota. And that could mean new jobs for some.
Non-stop service got underway to Sarasota, Florida on Friday. Making this the seventh city Allegiant serves from Grand Rapids. Here’s Grand Rapids International Airport Communications Manager, Tara Hernandez.
“You know there’s something about Florida, especially around this time of the year, where we’re still trying to break out of our hibernation. It sells very quickly. Sarasota is a good destination for us.”
The new, year round fights will operate twice weekly. Beginning in June, the company will also operate an aircraft base at the airport, which could mean more jobs.
“Right now, the employees that work for Allegiant are all contracted employees. So the, I think they’re bringing I about 60 jobs. So that will be. Everything from flight attendants, pilots, managers, the ticket crews and the ground handlers, all of that will be operated by Allegiant.”
Also coming in June, Allegiant will add two additional flights. One to Savannah, Georgia and another to Nashville, Tennessee.
