Monday's winter storm is just the beginning to a long winter week

Michigan is bracing for a blast of dangerously-cold weather this week. The arctic air is expected to wash across cities from Chicago to Toledo. Forecasters say the frigid weather is in essence leaking from the Arctic Circle, and will cause temperatures to plunge in the Great Lakes region which is already dealing with snowstorms and bitter cold.

In Michigan, National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Arnold says daytime Fahrenheit temperatures will barely reach the single digits.

“But on top of that the winds are also gonna be picked up, which is going to allow wind chill values to plummet," Arnold said. "So it’s going to be extremely dangerous cold that will come.”

Experts say the cold will be so intense that it could cause frostbite on exposed skin in only a few minutes.
