Republican State Rep. Afendoulis announces run for state Senate

Republican State Representative Chris Afendoulis is turning his attention to the Michigan Senate announcing this week he’ll campaign for the 29th district seat.

“I like to think I have a good commonsense philosophy. I really try to find out all the facts before I make a decision and I think I’ve got a good temperament for the job. You need people with that kind of experience in the Senate in particular because there are less members.”

Twenty six of Michigan’s 38 Senators are term limited in 2018. State Representative Chris Afendoulis who serves the 73rd House District has decided to forego his third term there and instead campaign to continue his pursuit of public service in Michigan’s 29th Senate district where Republican Senator Dave Hildenbrand is also term limited.

As one of only a handful of representatives to serve on both policy and appropriations committees, Afendoulis says he’s prepared to serve in the state Senate.

“So I think my willingness to try to find the solution, the way I try to operate is that I’m a solutions oriented person you have to understand both sides of an issue and people’s perspective and try to find a way to come to a conclusion that’s to the benefit of the people.”

Another State Representative, democrat Winnie Brinks, has announced she’ll also seek the 29th District Senate seat.
