The University of Michigan has received a $58 million commitment to help move ideas forward to improve prevention and treatment of health problems. The grant announced Wednesday is from the National Institutes of Health's National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences through its Clinical and Translational Science Awards program.
The grant offers up to five years of funding for the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research, which helps health and life science researchers turn their best ideas and discoveries into tests, treatments, care innovations and cures.
The institute also allows the public, including patients, to help shape research priorities. And the institute's registry allows researchers to find study participants.
The Ann Arbor school says the newly announced funding is contingent on the availability of future congressional appropriations.
