State officials have released the final part of a long-term plan for managing and protecting Michigan's water resources.

The Department of Environmental Quality's Office of the Great Lakes says the Michigan Water Strategy makes 75 recommendations.

The fourth and final section focuses on developing systems to monitor waterways and groundwater use.

It also suggests ways to step up cooperation among state agencies, communities and native tribes, including establishing a Michigan Interdepartmental Water Team.

Among next steps will be developing outreach and education initiatives and tracking progress.
