Authorities: Man accidentally shoots self, fires 2nd round

Authorities say a Detroit-area man who accidentally shot himself in the hand at a campground in western Michigan could face charges after he reported firing off a second round because he was upset.

Oceana County sheriff's department Lt. Craig Mast tells The Muskegon Chronicle

the 48-year-old Macomb Township man was camping at Jellystone Campground in the Mears area when he suffered an accidental gunshot wound Sunday night.

Mast says the man "chose to fire off another round into the bed in the camper he was staying in because he was upset that he just wounded himself."

Mast says the man told deputies he didn't think the 9 mm pistol was loaded. He was taken to a hospital and could face a charge of reckless discharge of a firearm.
