Gifts for the Greater Good: Philanthropy in West Michigan

TrueNorth Community Services

Students across Michigan are back in the classroom. For some families backpacks and school supplies can be a financial burden difficult to overcome. But for some of those low-income Newaygo County students there's help.

Fremont-based nonprofit TrueNorth Community Services and it's partners Choice One Bank, Fremont Area Community Foundation and Gerber Foundation are providing free backpacks, essential school supplies, haircuts and dental and vision screenings.

Their goal is providing those items and services to 1,000 students from kindergarten through 12th grade in greatest need through its 15th Annual Tools for Schools Expo.
