Legislation to fund and coordinate a survey of Michigan’s border with Indiana could soon head to the governor
Markers along Michigan’s Indiana border haven’t been updated in almost 200 years.
That’s caused confusion according to land surveyor Jack Owens. He says an attorney once reached out to him after a car accident on a road near the state line.
“The question is which state was the accident in? Because you either have to use the laws in Michigan or the laws of Indiana and he didn’t know which was going to apply.”
The states have tried to update the border for years…but past collaborations fell through.
Indiana has already passed legislation to handle its part of the survey effort.
