Upper Peninsula artists getting special place at ArtPrize

Artists from Michigan's Upper Peninsula will have a special place to show their works at the annual ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids.

The Daily Press of Escanaba reports a partnership between the Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba and DeVos Place in Grand Rapids will include an ArtPrize pavilion for Upper Peninsula artists at the convention center in western Michigan.

Pasqua Warstler with the Bonifas Arts Center says the pavilion could help boost interest in the Upper Peninsula as well as help area artists.

Warstler says those involved "want people to see the U.P. as a destination."

The pavilion will showcase roughly 30 to 50 works by Upper Peninsula artists during this year's ArtPrize, which takes place Sept. 21-Oct. 19.
