Dubbed the largest, most advanced data center campus in the eastern United States, the former Gaines Township Steelcase Pyramid has been transformed into the Switch Pyramid data center and it’s now open for business.
The first phase of the renovation is complete at the Switch Pyramid in Gaines Township providing 225,000 square feet of data center space. Over the next 10 years the build out will deliver a 1.8 million-square-foot data center campus.
The technology infrastructure ecosystem corporation founded in 2000 and headquartered in Las Vegas expects to employ hundreds of Michiganders over the next decade.
In a news release from Switch, it reads “the Switch Pyramid is designed to accommodate future-proof, high-density deployments, high-performance workloads and always-on applications across a wide spectrum of industries and technical requirements.”
The complex will yield 320 megawatts of power running on 100-percent green energy.
The Switch Pyramid serving Chicago, New York, Washington D.C. and Toronto.
The next phase in the campus development is the construction of the more than 471,000-square-foot Switch GRAND RAPIDS 1 data center.
