Students get hands-on experience with Stryker mobile lab

Students from Portage Middle School have gotten hands-on experience with medical devices produced by Kalamazoo-based medical technologies company Stryker Corp.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that for the first time since the Stryker's Mobile Instruments Laboratory was built a year ago, it was made available to students last week.

More than 100 students learned the function of instruments and got the chance to use some of them with help from volunteers from Stryker.

Stryker spokeswoman Jo Hawks says the idea was to spark curiosity about science and skilled labor and to help apply math and science to the real world.

Students at Western Michigan University's College of Engineering & Applied Science also visited the lab last week.

The idea was to help them discover career possibilities.
