A new website aimed at providing information to aging residents in Michigan was launched this week by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The department’s Aging and Adult Services Agency says this will serve as “one-stop” shopping for services that will help older adults maintain their independence
A new website launched by the state is set up as sort of a “one-stop-shopping” spot as it relates to services for the aging. Its purpose is to connect older adults with the programs and services that they need. It stems from Governor Snyder’s goal of a citizen centric government. Here’s Kari Sederburg, director of the state’s aging and adult services agency.
“And so this website is just one avenue to see what’s available and see what services are available in your community, but it’s not just services its also looking at what opportunities are available.”
Prior to this week’s reveal, Sederburg says they’ve been working on the website for about a year. She says navigating the website should be easy.
“We did a number of focus groups and asked is this something you would use, could use are interested in using and how would you like to use the information. And that’s how we devekoped the different categories.”
One of the main pages users might be directed to is one of state’s 16 area agencies on aging. Here’s Kent the County Area Agency on Aging Program Director, Suzanne Filby Clark.
“If you live in Grand Rapids for instance, you might know of the area agency on aging , you might not, but you can go to the website with the state and make that contact.”
