The Newaygo County Republican Party believes it is the first county GOP organization in the state to issue a resolution supporting President Donald Trump’s pledge to construct a southern border wall.

The Newaygo County Republican Party is led by a 17 member committee. During its executive committee meeting held January 3rd, it unanimously voted to support President Donald Trump and the construction of a $5.7 billion wall along the U.S./Mexico border and did so with the drafting of a resolution.

“What is our goal? What do we want to accomplish with this resolution? And, it’s completely to try to get some positive press out there for our president.”

Diane Schindlbeck is Newaygo County GOP Chair.

The resolution she signed reads, in part, “Common defense is totally ineffective when our borders are ignored. The President of the United States takes an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. President Donald J. Trump has correctly identified these illegal crossing as an imminent threat; securing our borders is a requirement, not an option. The Newaygo County Republicans urge the President to hold fast, ignore the shutdown, and BUILD THE WALL.”

“The hope that other counties throughout our state and our nation will follow lead and show our President, and show America, that we stand behind our President what he campaigned on and what he’s doing.”

Schindlbeck also asks, “How could a common sense idea like protecting our border become a political football.”
