Muskegon Community College receives its largest individual gift and names its new downtown center after donor.
Muskegon Community College’s Downtown Center has a name and it’s the Carolyn I. and Peter Sturrus Technology Center. The couple has a long history with Muskegon Community College. With much of their successes connected to MCC a $1.5 million donation was made during this week’s Board of Trustees meeting.
The money will ensure the new Downtown Center will be completed providing state-of-the-art training for students enrolled in Applied Technology programs. The 85,000 square foot Carolyn I. and Peter Sturrus Technology Center houses electronics/automation, welding, engineering and alternative energy programs to name a few.
Peter Sturrus took classes at MCC helping to launch his tool-and-die-maker career. Carolyn Sturrus began working at Muskegon Junior College in 1951 assisting more than a half-a-dozen directors and presidents.
