Larry Nassar fallout continues as MSU Gymnastics coach turns herself in to police

A retired Michigan State University Gymnastics coach is charged with lying to law enforcement. Kathie Klages turned herself in to police today

Investigators with the Attorney General’s office say they asked Klages if prior to 20-16 anyone reported to her that they had been sexually assaulted by Larry Nassar – and Klages said no. Nassar is the former M-S-U sports doctor who sexually assaulted his patients for decades.

But the Attorney General’s Office says they have witnesses who say they told Klages about Nassar as far back as 1997.

Takura Nyamfukudza is one of Klages’s attorneys. He says Klages is not guilty. And he pointed out that Attorney General Bill Schuette is running for governor – so this could be a political move.

“I’m just stating the timing is interesting. Very close to it. Larry Nassar is off the front pages now and here we are again.”

The A-G’s office denies any political motive.

A hearing to see if there’s enough evidence for Klages to go to trial is scheduled for September.
