A large-scale floral mural is making its official debut in Grand Rapids as part of a project by the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.

Detroit-based artist Louise Chen created the mural as part of the third installment of the Exit Space Project, a public art initiative from the UICA.

The mural is on the Grand Rapids Ballet Company's building and an event celebrating its completion is planned Monday.

Those involved in the project say the mural's style is new to Grand Rapids and helps to signal vitality and energy in the city.

The ballet's Artistic Director Patricia says in a statement that the ballet is "committed to artists who help make beautiful spaces."

The Exit Space Project has included works at the UICA and around the city.
