Millions of dollars in security improvements have been awarded to the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Gerald R. Ford International Airport will receive more than $3.8 million dedicated to security improvements.
The money is a portion of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program. The program receives $3 billion annually. The money is shared among the nation’s 3,300 eligible airports used for upgrading safety, security, capacity, and efficiency measures.
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters worked to secure the grant money. Stabenow says, “Safe and reliable air travel will also help encourage businesses to invest in the region and create jobs.”
Airport officials expressed the money will help to stay current with technology development and as Gerald R. Ford International Airport President & CEO Jim Gill put it to bring in, "state-of-the-art access control and surveillance systems."
