WGVU’s Decision 2018 continues its profiling of candidates running in Michigan’s Senate primary races. WGVU talks with the two Republicans running for Michigan’s 29th Senate district seat.
Republican Dan Oesch is a Wyoming, Michigan native. A specialist in hospital logistics has provided him with a greater understanding of the health care system and cutting expenses. He says the state must operate within a balanced budget and implement policies promoting growth of Michigan businesses and encouraging entrepreneurship.
On his Facebook page, Oesch explains his goal “Is to run as a conservative/libertarian option in the 29th (district).”
“I decided to run for state Senate because I was tired of establishment Republicans that continue to raise taxes and fees on working Michigan families. Our current leaders have not been aggressive enough in making Michigan the best place to work, live and retire. We need principled leadership that is going to make Michigan better for everyone.”
Republican Chris Afendoulis has spent his life in Grand Rapids Township and the 29th district. His political approach is “free markets and free people.” He believes in reducing regulatory burdens encouraging commerce, spending taxpayer dollars wisely ensuring government services are efficient.
“I believe my experience is really unique. I’m a CPA, and auditor, a small business owner. I was in private industry for 25 years, served in local government, I’ve been a state rep now for four years and I want to put all that experience to work in the state Senate. On my too do list? Continue to work on our roads. Reduce our auto insurance costs for West Michigan drivers. Improve educational outcomes and opportunity for people and keep this economy moving forward.”
