$1 million grant will fund sexual assault prevention on campuses across Michigan

In an effort to enhance sexual assault prevention on college and university campuses across Michigan, Governor Rick Snyder Tuesday announced $1 million in grant funding has been awarded to 22 Michigan colleges and universities. Snyder made the announcement Tuesday, as the funds will come from Michigan’s Campus Sexual Assault Grant Program (CSAGP).

This year marks the highest investment in the program to date, with more than $2.5 million in grant funding available since it was launched in 2015 by First Lady Sue Snyder. Speaking at Grand Valley State University, Snyder says while the state has made progress in sexual assault prevention, there is still work to be done.

“Preventing sexual assault and supporting survivors, not only makes our campus safer, but it also sends a message to our young people, that they matter,” Snyder said. “Their health, safety, well-being, and future matters. I want all students and survivors to feel this way when they are on college campuses in Michigan.”

The grant program, which for the fourth consecutive year is administered by the Michigan State Police, aims to change the overall culture of sexual assault among the college-age population. This year 22 community colleges and universities including Grand Valley State University will receive $1
